Introduction

This activity allows the pupils to explore the use of shape - namely circles - in pictures. It follows the work of artists like Kandinsky, who produced a range of abstract pictures in the early 20th century based on circles. Pupils discuss a picture based on Kandinsky's work and look at the exploration of circles by the artist. They have the opportunity to look at similarities and differences of the representation of circles within the picture by focusing closely on a few examples. They then have the chance to make their own circles using a colour palette and a tool bar. Suggestions are then made for the pupils to explore making circles within in practical activities.
