5. Facilities
Morzine has a wide range of accommodation available. There are over 50 hotels and guesthouses in the resort. Most of these are owned by local people and ‘chain’ hotels are not present in the area. The resort also has over 1,000 apartments and chalets which can be rented from their owners for a week or longer.
In addition there are a number of holiday centres and holiday villages as well as two campsites.
Tourists who enjoy visiting mountain resorts such as Morzine, in winter or summer generally prefer an authentic and traditional atmosphere for their accommodation, rather than modern, business-style hotels. Most apartments and chalets are self-catered, which gives more flexibility and is often cheaper than staying in a hotel.
There is a range of facilities which are connected to the winter and summer sports available in Morzine. There are many shops which hire and sell skiing and snowboarding equipment. There are also a number of ski and snowboarding schools. In the summer, the same shops provide mountain biking equipment.
As a town which relies heavily on tourism, Morzine has a wide range of restaurants and entertainment facilities, including night clubs and cinemas. These are used by local people as well as by tourists.
A range of sports facilities are also provided, including a tennis complex and open-air swimming pool.
The major indoor sports facility is the Palais des Sports, which includes an ice rink offering skating. Ice-hockey matches are also played.
There is also a 9 hole golf course at Avoriaz, which is only open for a few months in the summer.
